NHL Stadium Series

Levi's® Stadium, Santa Clara

The 2015 NHL Stadium Series game between the San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings, and sponsored by Coors Light, featured stages, decor, pyrotechnics and legendary rock performances produced by e2k events x entertainment.

On a crystal clear night in Santa Clara, the National Hockey League welcomed a sell-out crowd of more than 70,000 fans to the newly-built Levi’s® Stadium. e2k is no stranger to the venue, having produced the Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Grand Opening Gala in July 2015, followed by the inaugural home opener game entertainment for the San Francisco 49ers. But this was the first large scale third-party event at Levi’s®, in which the NHL not only took over the stands and the field, but also the operational infrastructure, club spaces and official stadium event app.

The Stadium Series ice rink was erected on top of the 49ers football field during a two-week load-in involving two refrigeration trucks working through the nights to freeze over 20,000 gallons of water to create a two inch ice-skating surface. During that time, e2k contributed décor and set pieces, built concert stages in both end zones, and connected a 360° on-field sound system to augment the stadium speaker arrays.

The pregame ceremony and player introductions were directed by e2k, and featured more than 100 youth hockey players from the Bay Area.  The National Anthem was performed by singer-songwriter and American Idol winner Kris Allen, while e2k unfurled a massive American flag in the north end zone stands.  Allen also performed his hit song, “Live Like We’re Dying,” accompanied by the 22-piece Symphony Silicon Valley.

The game intermissions featured e2k-produced concerts from local rock legend John Fogerty and Grammy-winning, platinum-selling singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge.  Fogerty brought the stadium to its feet with his rendition of “Bad Moon Rising,” and then performed a medley on national television with “Born on the Bayou,” “Proud Mary,” and “Fortunate Son.”  Etheridge  performed three songs — “Bring Me Some Water,” “I’m the Only One” and a cover of the Janis Joplin favorite “Piece of My Heart.”

In addition to the technical production and concert performances, e2k brought new technology to the annual NHL event with innovation partners Wham City Lights, who integrated a mobile device light show into the Levi’s® Stadium app.

The day before the Stadium Series game, e2k produced a special media event for the National Hockey League and sponsor SAP, who unveiled the new hockey statistics platform at NHL.com.  The press conference featured addresses from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and hockey legend and SAP spokesman Eddie Olczyk.  e2k directed the sound, lighting and video for the event, as well as the live webcast that streamed on NHL.com and was viewed by more than 8,000 remote fans.
