For the nearly 400 young women who turned out on Sunday, March 29 for the annual San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush cheerleader auditions, the day brought the dream of joining one of the NFL’s premiere performance groups a few steps closer. The Gold Rush hopefuls gathered for a three day-long tryout process. Despite the grueling schedule, the applicants were filled with hope, excitement and anticipation.
Seventy-four talented finalists were selected to take part in an extensive interview process in which they were asked to talk about their passion for the San Francisco 49ers and their career and educational aspirations. Although the Gold Rush are known world-wide for their performance abilities, the women are as well-balanced off the football field as they are on it. Judges deliberated extensively before choosing the final 32 squad members.
“We have a dynamic group representing the diverse Bay Area,” said Team Director, Erin Olmstead. “It’s important for us to choose the right team member who can represent the organization professionally and who can lead a stadium full of 49ers Faithful and create excitement at our games.”
